Finding the Flight Path


a) The vector equation for the velocity of the plane with respect to the wind is given by,
Vpw = Vpg +Vgw

where Vpg = 1000 km / 2.5 hr  at 45North of East

          Vpg = 400 km/hr  45North of East

          Vwg = 75 km/hr  at 70South of East

b) We can now draw the vector diagram the represents the vector equation. Note the reversal of the velocity vector, wind w.r.t. ground, Vwg.  This satisfies the vector equation and ensures the addition of the vectors in the tip-to-tail convention.
